How To Make Your Car Perform Better

Every person we speak to asks us what the best way is to make their car perform better. Many are especially concerned with being able to achieve higher top-end speeds and acceleration. There are a number of small things that you can do that will combine to provide a car engine that performs better than it did before. Here are some of the things you need to do:

Car Maintenance

Yes, it sounds boring but simple maintenance of your vehicle is the best way to make sure that you don’t lose any horsepower to begin with. Simply changing your oil regularly as well as your oil and fuel filters are important aspects of making your engine perform at its best. At your regular service the mechanic will also check the timing of your engine. The timing is so crucial to the performance that if it is out by only a little bit then it can lead to reduced performance and increased fuel consumption.

Air Flow

An internal combustion engine relies on the principle of fuel combusting in air. If you increase the airflow into the engine then you’ll see improved performance. The problem is that when the fuel combusts in the engine it also makes a lot of noise. This is why the exhaust systems of a car are designed to reduce the noise. In reducing the noise it can also become restrictive to airflow. If you replace your exhaust system with a high performance, free flow, exhaust then you will have improved engine performance and even a better sound coming from your engine.

Nitrous Oxide

If you’ve been down to the drag track or watched movies about street racing then you know the effect that Nitrous oxide can have on a car. Nitrous oxide dramatically increases the flammability of the air fuel mixture and gives the engine a big power boost when it is used. This is a solution that will give you a short term boost and not a permanent improvement though. The modification that is required isn’t particularly expensive but refilling the nitrous tanks can get pricey. car parts is here.

Lighten Up

The acceleration and top-end speed that a car has all comes down to power to weight ratio. When comparing two cars it’s not enough just to look at their respective engine sizes or power output. For a car to benefit fully from the horses under the hood it needs to be light. Reducing the weight of a vehicle is hardly ever about getting rid of something big. It’s all about removing as many small unnecessary things as possible so that the cumulative weight of these things makes a big difference. There are some things that you can’t remove and in these cases you need to try and replace them with lighter materials like carbon fibre. Your car seats are usually big contributors to the weight of the car. Replacing these, as well as well as things like your glass windows, will all contribute to an improved power to weight ratio.

Increase Your Engine Capacity

At first this sounds obvious. A bigger engine means more power right? But getting a bigger engine doesn’t necessarily mean taking the old one out and putting another one in. You can use a kit to increase the stroke of the cylinders in your engine. A crankshaft with a longer stroke will mean that your old engine will now have a slightly increased capacity without having to be replaced. This increased stroke will also mean that you engine produces more exhaust gasses. If your engine has a turbo then these increased exhaust gasses will cause your turbo to spin up sooner to give your car a quicker boost with less turbo lag.

Turbos and Superchargers

A great way to improve the power of a car engine is to fit a turbo or a supercharger. These will force more air into the cylinder for higher energy combustion and increased output power. Fitting these automotive spares is not a cheap exercise but the improvement in power is very noticeable.

High Performance Tyres

Speed is not just about how fast you can go in a straight line. Overall speed is also determined by how quickly you can go around corners. The cornering ability of your car is highly dependent on having a decent suspension but the quality of your tyres will also have a big effect.
